Frequently Asked Questions

General Information

What is Pictalk?

Pictalk is a suite of applications designed to improve communication, promote independence, and reduce anxiety for individuals with neurodevelopmental disorders, such as autism, autism spectrum disorders (ASD), and Down syndrome. Our tools include Pictalk Communication, CAA Agenda, CAA Easy, and CAA Creator.

Who are the Pictalk applications aimed at?

Our applications are intended for individuals with communication or organizational difficulties, whether they have been present since birth (for example, Down syndrome, autism, ASD, Angelman syndrome) or acquired later (stroke, accidents, neurodegenerative diseases). They are also useful for parents, caregivers, and healthcare professionals who support these individuals.

Do AAC applications hinder language development?

No, Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC) supports language development. It reduces frustrations by providing a means of communication and fosters language skills. Our little brother Pablo is now 19 years old and can buy breadsticks by himself using Pictalk. For more information, you can check this article: https://www.caausette.com/un-mythe-qui-a-la-peau-dure

What is AAC?

Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC) refers to all the tools, methods, and strategies that compensate for or supplement verbal communication. It provides individuals who have difficulty expressing themselves orally—whether from birth or due to an event (stroke, accident, neurodegenerative disease)—with effective means to communicate their thoughts, needs, and emotions.

What is the difference between the various Pictalk applications?

  • Pictalk Communication: A communication application that uses pictograms to help individuals who have difficulty expressing themselves verbally.
  • CAA Agenda: A visual schedule that helps structure the day and reduce anxiety related to unpredictability.
  • CAA Easy: An application that translates words or phrases into pictograms to facilitate communication with non-verbal or hard-of-hearing individuals.
  • CAA Creator: A tool dedicated to creating AAC resources, such as sequencers, weekly planners, and life books.
